Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, is a holy Hindu festival that worships the Elephant God, Ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi is the fourth and auspicious day of the 10-day long festival Ganesh Utsav.
On this holy occasion, huge Ganesha idols are installed atpandals (temporary stages) in certain colonies, and people also worship smaller idols at home and conduct extensive pujas with prayers and 'vrata'. People chantshlokas from Ganapati Upanishad and modaks and other prasaads are distributed since modak is considered to be the favourite sweet of Lord Ganesha.
